Chinese American Genealogy Lecture Recognized

I am very pleased to share this news item published by the Boston Chinese community newspaper Sampan about my lecture presented on February 27, 2013.  While the talk focused mainly on genealogy and resources specific to Chinese Americans, the article captures the historical background of Chinese in America reasonably well.  Here is the article.

In researching local history using back issue microfilms of the Salem Evening News,  I found some really useful articles about the  Chinese Salem.    I would suggest that much local

material about many ethnic groups is going unread. Newspapers really were great sours of local info before WWII, and are an important overlooked source of local history.

Hi Alice – thanks so much for sharing this article. Very interesting indeed, and cleared up a question I've had about how it worked with "paper sons". I'll send you a message about getting in touch with Peter K.
