What is your interest in the Mass. Studies Network?
I coordinate the Local History programs and collections at the Morse Institute Library in Natick, MA. We are a public library within a great community with a rich history and growing future. I have been looking for ways to connect with other local organizations in similar communities to find out what they are doing.

I am from Iowa originally but have made my home in Massachusetts for almost 26 years now. My background includes almost 21 years of professional experience working in libraries, business reseach, preservation and other special projects.

So sorry to hear you've been sick, Karol - hope you're better today! This has been a hard winter - hope some weekend sunshine will have you up and about. We missed you and Marguerite last evening. Marguerite logged in to chat which was really fun to see although probably not too fun for her as I was abysmally bad at multi-tasking during the presentation. It was a nice crowd and some great conversation and ideas were flowing. More anon!

Me and my pup Button had just finished our walk. She chooses the bench - hops up - and there is nothing for it but for me to sit with her and be mindful. Button saw the photographer before I did. Thats unusual as she hates to have her photo taken! I feel the same but I didnt see the photographer until I got up to walk us back to the car.
By the way - thanks for stopping the dvd by!

The digital storytelling thing is exactly what I have in mind for our library. That said - im trying to get a handle on what I need to know (read train for) and how it will play out in terms of workflow and end product. The end product if done well will be great. My problem is being only part-time and already doing to many full-time things. Yes - Brown is a great place to be, so is Providence. And I love my job - it's great to get to be in a new place, trying new things. Tell me more about your community conversations - how are they structured? Who participates? I'm very curious about all kinds of digital storytelling possibilities. I just recently returned from a three day workshop put on by the Center for Digital Storytelling, which uses video, audio, photos, music to have people craft short (3 minute) first-person stories. I'm trying to figure out if it's a model that might dovetail with what I do in my oral history classes. I'd love to hear more about what you've been doing through the library in this regard.
