Niki, the above (or attached?) file should be a close-up of UMA from the 1886 view.

As to the job at Worcester Historical, I am the Director of Programs. I develop and manage all general public, education, and outreach endeavors, work with the docent corps, and generally oversee interpretation/interactives in the museum. It's fun for the most part. I get to be a historian a lot, work closely with the collections departments, and meet a lot of interesting people.

Thank you for the suggestion! I added the image you mentioned. Pixelated as it is, I think it's better than the previous image. I'm no photo-shop wiz, but if you have ideas on how to improve it, please go for it.

I see you are at Worcester Historical, how cool! I know a few of us here are on the museum track and would love to hear a bit about what you do if you don't mind sharing.

Comment by Thomas Conroy on July 13, 2008 at 10:26am: There's an 1886 Bird's Eye View of Amherst on the LOC's American Memory site. U-Mass (then Mass Aggie) is in the upper right; Amherst College is in the lower left/center. Viewing it with the MrSID software (provided on the site) can get you close up into the picture, which you might be able to capture from your desktop. Otherwise, it might be worth a trip to the Amherst History Museum (67 Amity Street) to work something out with the staff there for a picture.

Comment by Niki Lefebvre on July 11, 2008 at 9:55pm: Does anyone have a great photo of Amherst? Perhaps an historic image? This photo of the view from Mount Holyoke is neither in Amherst nor is it representative of our program, but it was the best I could do at the time - I think we can do better!
