I posed this question elsewhere, but thought I'd ask it here, too. Is it common for authors to charge an extra fee to sign/inscribe a book at an event or book signing? If so, what is a typical upcharge?

Heather - I don't think it's usual to add extra for signing unless it's a special occasion. For instance, if the historical society is having a targeted fundraiser, then the book might be advertised as a special offer, signed by the author. More normally, however, the author signature is supposed to be the small bonus that gets you to buy right now, rather than wait a while and have a plain old unsigned one (or - worst scenario - forget and not buy one at all!). That makes sense - thanks!
